While no real evidence of commencement of Kali - yuga has been recorded, still it is widely believed to have started about 5000 years ago. The Mayan Calendar could have coincidentally calculated their calendar till 2012, considering the fact that the calendar could not have been calculated manually till the end of time or time infinity, in the absence of computing devices during those periods.
